Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan booked

Mumbai

July 29 2002

Police have registered a complaint against popular actor Shahrukh Khan for allegedly abusing a cameraman of a television channel and issuing threats to him.

According to police, an alternation arose between a cameraman of ZEE news and personal security guard of the actor last night at a function organised at Crossroad Mall in central Mumbai to unveil a collection of costumes figuring in the actor’s recently released film ‘Devdas’.

The security guard objected to the cameraman filming certain shots of Shahrukh Khan at the function.

However, when the cameraman had questioned the security guard over the validity of the objections, a argument broke out between both the groups with the star intervening to settle the dispute, police said.

Later, there was a scuffle between the cameraman and the actor and his security guard.

On the basis of complaint lodged by the victim, Tardeo police registered a case against Shahrukh and his guard under section 504 IPC and Section 506 of IPC (criminal intimidation).

Declare Pondy and Karaikal drought-hit... CPI

Pondicherry

July 27 2002

Former Pondicherry Agriculture minister and CPI national council member R Viswanathan today called upon the Congress-led administration here to declare Pondicherry and Karaikal regions as drought-hit.

Addressing reporters here, Viswanathan said it was really a sorry spectacle that the Pondicherry Congress Ministry had not deputed anyone to participate in the recent meeting convened by the Centre to take stock of the drought conditions in several parts of the country.

He also felt that no proper representation had been made on the sufferings of farmers and farm labourers because of dry spell in the two regions.

Viswanathan said the administration should come out with proper strategies to tackle the problem of the workers and helpers of the anganwadi centres who had been on indefinite strike for more than two weeks.
